Cleveland Trip

Well, I went and looked at the sample, but I don't have it to show, the guy kept it. I found a picture on the internet of what the material kind of looks like. The images are going to be mounted on this vinyl and then placed on black gator board. The vinyl is made to appear as metal but it is not metal. It has a neat texture in it and I think it looked really good with my images.

Sample...checkkk

Well, my sample is finallyyy ready so I am going to drive up to cleveland tomorrow to get it. I will have it at the critique on monday to show!

Things that inspire me....well I am inspired by every bridge that I see obviously. I love seeing new ones and the possible architecture that they form. Bridges tell a story to me and that is why I love using them in my artwork.

Titles

Despondency Inferno FragmentedDisconnectDeliquesceInsufflate

Despondency is a loss of courage or hope. Inferno I used to mean when your life is "up in smokes", getting intense and really heated up. Disconnect and Fragmented stages in your life. Deliquesce means to melt or fade away, so in life when memories are coming and going and things are fading away. Insufflate is to breathe, so that stage in your life where you feel like all your doing is just breathing and trying to make it through life.

Sample!

Well, liquidimage got the sample in of what I might mount my images on, so I am very excited about that. I hope to finish up all my work soon and start the printing process. so excited!

Current Situation

Well, right now I have 4 pieces that are finished, and I am currently working with three. One should be completed soon and the other two are just at the beginning stages. Once I get the first five completed I am going to post them together so everybody can see them as a series. I am not exactly sure how many I am going to have for this semester and my senior show. I'm just working really hard to bust out as many as I can right now.

Casey Waters

My favorite photographer in the current show is Casey Waters. I love how her images are displayed on a mirror. To me, it made the display more personal, because I could see my own face when looking at the images that are transferred onto this mirror. It also made me look around the image more. From one angle you could only see part of the image; therefore, you had to keep moving around to see the entire image. I think it makes you interact with the image more. So to me her display is really what I enjoyed, it took the plain images to another level.

Work in Progress

Well, I have been working with this image a lot. I don't find it finished and there are a few things bothering me about it. I think I am going to not look at it for a while and come back in a week or so. I like where it is going though, and once I get the other side for the diptych going I think I will like it more.

Print Samples

Well, I am working right now on doing some print samples to decide what I want to print on this semester and for my senior show that is in December.
The first test was with backlit film. I really liked the effect on one of the pieces but I felt like the light didn't do much for the other image.
So, my next test is going to be on vinyl. I'm going to try the vinyl and possibly watercolor. My hope with the vinyl is to print on metal. I've been thinking about the possibility of metal, but I wasn't sure if I could get it done. Jessi told me about Liqu
id Image in Cleveland and they work on printing on different surfaces. They would be able to print on the metal for me, so I'm looking into calling them soon to get details. The idea would be to frame
both images on one metal frame, but splitting them up as well. I was thinking possibly a 3 inch metal border around and a one inch section between the two images so
I can still keep the diptychs going. The images themselves would be 24 long and 18 wide. So with the images and the frame, I'm looking at possibly 4 feet long and 2 feet wide frame and all. Here is a quick sample I came up with that is the idea I'm considering. I
really love the idea of printing on the metal. Any comments would be great! :)

Newest Progress

These are my latest two diptychs. I had an epiphany in class on monday and found a great direction to follow. I'm going to display these vertical instead of horizontal and have them be images on their own. One side is going to be brighter and one side is going to be darker, hence the positive and negative sides of one's journey.
Jessi had mentioned the idea of printing these on backlit and putting light on them for my senior show. I think this would be a great possibility so we will see.

This last piece I haven't done much with. I'm playing with the perspective and possibly going to use this and several others to create smaller pieces. These smaller pieces are going to represent the missing pieces of one's journey. The parts that you wish you didn't do or could do again.

9/17 2:39pm

I'm still working on my first three images from the first critique. I'm working to refine those and them get started on some new photos. I also have some new images from home that I am going to start working with next. Hope everybody else's work is going great!

First Critique of the Semester

Well I think the first Crit went very well. Everybody has a lot of new ideas and the ideas seem very interesting. I need to keep working with mine. Jessi suggested using warp and perspective to play into my pieces so that is going to be my next goal. I really like my one image so far so I would like to final that piece up first before I move on.

getting started

These are the 3 images I've been working with so far. :)

works in progress

Well i've got about 3 photos im trying to work with right now. I'm wanting to get different angles of the bridges this year so its been a little harder to get things to work out how i like. I usually do a lot of work with brushes, overlaying, and rotating with the original image to get what I want the final piece to look like. I've still been looking at mark inglis's work to get some ideas flowing.

new material

Well, I went up to cleveland on saturday and got some great shots of bridges. This semester I'm thinking about working on different angles of the bridges, instead of just the side shot like most of mine were last semester.
Jessi told me about the artist Mark Inglis, who uses architecture in his art. I am in love!
http://markinglis.com/
By looking at his website, I'm considering doing something like this by dissecting the bridges and making the images more abstract. We'll see, but I'm totally inspired by seeing his work.

Last semester final pieces

Last semester of college...

Well I think I will be sticking to my bridges for this semester as well. I really liked the path I took last semester and I want to stick to that. I already have a lot of source material that I'm ready to work with. You can look at some previous work by viewing the previous posts, but I plan to add all my finished pieces from last semester that I have not added yet.

So, here is my whole thought process behind my bridges...
When I display them, I display them side by side as diptychs. My goal by photographing/manipulating these bridges is to display a journey. I believe each of these photos tells a different journey. Some are sad and some are bright and happy. We drive over bridges to take us to different places; just like the journey of life takes us to different places. We never know where we are going and we never know how it may turn out. The goal is that each of these photos tells a separate journey but as a whole it is one giant journey, just like our life. It takes separate smalls journeys to get us through the big journey of life.

Back at it...

Well, Spring break went by entirely to fast if you ask me, and I did not want to leave the florida weather, but here I am back in good ole ashland, ohio. So anyways, back to computer art! I'm working with my diptychs right now and getting them to work together. I haven't taken any more photos right now, because I want to work with the images I have. I'll post my images from midterm soon!

Some new Pictures!

Here are some new pictures that I took from Cincinnati!

snow, snow, and more snow

Well, I had planned to make a trip to Cleveland to take pictures of bridges this weekend because I finally don't have softball....and of course the snow has cancelled my trip. I'm gonna try to see if I can make it up there on sunday but I'm not sure what my roommates doing. I don't have a car, and she would be my ride. And I didn't want all this freaking snow in my photos, but we'll see...

2/22 Critique

I have started one more piece, and started adding some more to my previous piece. I am working on shattering/destroying the bridge I had previously started. This is causing some problems for me and that's why I didn't get very far. I wasn't sure how that process was going to work; however, people suggested to keep moving with it. Dr. Maloney suggested that I need to start on the 2nd side to my diptych. Very good point I might add. I feel like by doing this, I will get more ideas.

Photos from the last Crit

These are the two images I'm starting the semester off with. The one on the bottom was done last semester, but I wanted people to see where my inspiration is coming from.

1st Crit Down

ok, so i showed two pieces in class that im really excited about. I think this new bridge route and using images like diptychs is really going to help me. Im going to pull against being bounded by time and also the everlasting feel we get by viewing amazing images around us. I'm super excited to get this semester rollin'! i will post my two images soon!

workin

So far, Im still finding images to get ready for my new project this semester.
I have some ideas, so I'm hoping to put them into good use.
I'm looking at having 1 to 2 images started for the critique

New Semester

I want to make some images implying the passing of time. I want to make images that you see and think they could never change, but yet it does with time because sometimes we forget that everything we do is bounded by time. Time passes and so do the things we see in our every day life...things come and go. And I can use this idea to bounce back and forth between time being everlasting and being bounded by time.
